One sultry summer week in Chicago, a group of girls met in Roosevelt University's Loop Campus to learn how to "rock". Run by a group of women integral to the city's music scene, Chicago's first ever Girl's Rock Camp offered girls ages 9 - 16 access to instruments, personal lessons based on their skill set, workshops on tempo, music history, and making promotional materials like tshirts and buttons. The girls were divided into four bands based on their age and knowledge of their instrument, and each day afforded them time to have proper band practice in which they learned the basics of composition and teamwork as they wrote one original song. At the end of the week, friends and family gathered in Chicago's infamous Schuba's Tavern for a Saturday afternoon show. Each band played their song, rocking like true rockstars, and bringing the house down.
