In the southern comuna of La Granja in Santiago de Chile,
community center Domingo Savio offers a safe place for children to spend time after school when
they either cannot return home or have no other place to go. Thirty children from the surrounding area
are accepted into the club where they can receive help with their homework, learn social skills,
have access to workshops led by caring staff members and volunteers, and have fun.
The Domingo Savio Theatre Project, which is one of the talleres (workshops) offered
to the children, focuses on building self-esteem, public speaking skills, and creative expression. After months
of practice, the children perform for their families and friends with a seriousness that captivates
the audience. |
